5 Activities to do with your kids at home

This week we want to share with you 5 Activities that you can do with your kids.
Staying home with children might be tricky during times like this. They have all the energy in the world, and they’re use to having all their friends around at all times.

So we chose some activities that you can do together to use this time to bond, while you keep them safe and sound. Here you can find more activities that are helping us during the quarantine.

1- Painting together

This doesn’t have to be a crazy mess. How? You can get some old bed sheets, or a scenery paper role and lay it on the floor. Then get some paints and let it go! Let them choose what to draw, embrace their style and have fun with it!

Free painting is liberating and relaxing. It’s also a great way to understand your kids better because you will see them tap into their subconscious mind right in front of you. Most likely you will learn a lot with them as well.

2- Theater Show

Putting a theater show together is no easy task. This is a great idea if you have a lot of free time, because is something you can do during the course of one or even more weeks.
Firstly there is the script. Here you can let them go wild. It can be surreal or very simple. The important thing is that you’re all having fun! Writing is a great way to stimulate the brain and have them studying without even noticing!
Next thing is customs. How fun is that? You can play with old clothes, or even experiment sewing something they will find fabulous. Let them draw their own suits and imagine their characters.
The final step is the stage and scenario. Another opportunity to get creative with what you already have in the house. Maybe you can dig up some Christmas lights and use the painting from our first tip?

If you do and share a picture of it, please tag us! We would love to see your creative play time!

3- A Poem and Song

Writing and drawing are a beautiful way to express ourselves and to explore our deep waters. We don’t have to be writers and artists to do it. All humans are creative, complex and deeply interesting creatures. For our society to work the way it does, we gave up our personal time, and we often forget to spend some quality time with ourselves.

Writing poetry with your kids is a beautiful way to introduce them to an activity that can help them with self discovery. Not being afraid of feeling all the feelings is vital for a happy life. Poetry and really any form of creative writing can help process the bumps in the road.
To make it more exciting make a song from the poems! If you don’t play any instrument and this feels outside of your comfort zone, you can take a music they like and replace the lyrics. That in itself is a hole adventure, and the result is going to be nothing less than adorable!

Music is also something beautiful that connects us to each other. Singing together as one can be very powerful. It unites us and helps us feel stronger.

4- Bake some Vegan Cookies!

Who can be a better little helper? Kids will love to put their hands in some dough and make some delicious cookies!

Here is a quick recipe:
● 1/2 cup vegan butter
● 1/2 cup organic cane sugar (plus more for topping)
● 1/4 cup brown sugar
● 1 tsp pure vanilla extract
● 1/4 cup pumpkin puree*
● 1 1/2 heaping cups unbleached all-purpose flour (sub up to 1/3 whole-wheat pastry)
● 1/2 Tbsp cornstarch or arrowroot powder (for thickening/binding)
● 1 tsp baking powder
● 1/2 tsp baking soda
● 1/4 tsp salt
● 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon
● 1 Tbsp almond milk (or other non-dairy milk)

Preparation

Add softened butter to a large mixing bowl and cream with a mixer for 1 minute. Add sugar, brown sugar and vanilla and beat for 1 more minute. Add pumpkin and mix once more. Set your sifter over something that will catch fall out and add dry ingredients. Use a spoon to briefly stir, then sift over butter and sugar ingredients, to combine. Mix until incorporated, being careful not to over mix. Then add almond milk and mix until a soft dough is formed. Freeze dough for 15 minutes, or refrigerate for 30 minutes (or chill overnight), preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (176 C), and position a rack in the center of the oven. Scoop out heaping 1 Tbsp amounts of dough and roll into balls. Place on a clean baking sheet 2 inches apart to allow for spreading. Dip a glass into cane sugar and then gently smash the cookie ball down into a disc (see photo). Bake on the center rack for 10-12 minutes or very slightly golden brown. Add powdered sugar 1/2 cup at a time and continue mixing until thick and creamy. Drizzle in a little non-dairy milk to thin. You want this frosting to be pretty thick so it will hold its shape once on the cookies, so only add a little milk and add more powdered sugar if it gets too thin. Once cooled, frost cookies and top with a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon. Store leftovers covered at room temperature for up to a few days. Freeze for longer-term storage. Let rest on pan for a few minutes. Then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely. Prepare frosting in the meantime. 5- Guided Yoga & Meditation

We have written about the benefits of yoga and meditation. How it’s important for both your body health and your brain. It will help with stress management, and it’s a great way to reconnect with yourself.

Maybe imagining your kids sitting down in silence for 15 minutes seams too much like a fantasy. Which is why we recommend guided yoga & meditation! There are several free youtube videos that can help you with this. Our favorites are Yoga with Adriene and Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche.

Yoga will slow them down, stretch them up and prepare them for a relaxing meditation. All the best schools offer yoga and meditation classes to toddlers! There are good reasons for that. It makes them more peaceful, and it helps with concentration. Try it out and thank us later!

Stay safe and loving,

Have a beautiful day,
